Grammy: A Visual Essay

I wrote a poem for my Great Grandmother on her 90th birthday and brought it to life with a variety of mixed media materials.

"You've accomplished so much in your lifetime,

And to me you're seen as a ray of sunshine."

"You've faced so many obstacles in Mississippi growing up,

Yet you didn't let any of them disrupt."

"You graduated from Tuskegee and became a dietician,

Now you live in North Carolina with lots of knowlege on nutrition."

Alpha Kappa Alpha was the sorority you joined,

And 'Don't get no whoopins' was something that you coined"

"You were a business woman starting Bambi Daycare,

All for your first born grandchild which allowed him to grow there."

"Looking back at what you've done it's never been about you,

That's why the love you give is so strong and true."
